“Speargun Hunter” with the XDCAM HD PDW-F350 camcorder

Optical Camcorders Team with HDV Tape-based Camcorders to Capture Dramatic Footage above and below the Water’s Surface

TEMECULA, Calif., Jan. 27, 2007 – Documenting the life of an ocean speargun hunter is challenging enough for a moviemaker; doing it while fighting ocean swells and gusting wind makes a shoot even more complex.

That’s why Filmmaker and Director of Photography Robin D. Berg chose Sony’s new optical disc-based XDCAM HD™ Professional Disc™ System to produce “Speargun Hunter,” a new documentary airing on the Outdoor Channel this month.

Berg shot all the above-water footage for “Speargun Hunter” with the XDCAM HD PDW-F350 camcorder, which easily withstood saltwater spray, tight quarters, and wave-tossed seas.
“The XDCAM® format is solid and I experienced no digital dropout or other media problems associated with tape,” Berg said. “The disc-based camera is very user friendly; Sony definitely got it right.”

Berg’s favorite XDCAM HD features are the flip-out LCD monitor and the random access capabilities of Sony’s blue laser-based Professional Disc optical media, which allow instant thumbnail views of footage on-site. Berg added that the media’s cost-effectiveness – up to 65 minutes of HD storage on a disc that costs less than $30 (MSRP) – also helped his budget.
According to Berg, the intense three-month production schedule took him, his production crew and expert speargun hunters Sheri Daye and Chad Palan to the waters of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, along with Key West and the Treasure Coast in Florida.

World-record spear fisherman and underwater photographer Terry Maas shot the production’s underwater footage with Sony’s HVR-Z1U compact HDV camcorder, encased in an underwater housing. Using this tape-based model, Maas captured Palan and Daye’s underwater adventures, including Daye’s close encounter with a shark and her successful struggle to capture a world record-sized Yellow fin tuna.

Berg noted that he condensed highlights of 13 hours of footage into an hour-long documentary that will air on the Outdoor Channel. The production also took “Best Documentary” honors at the Temecula Valley (Calif.) International Film and Music Festival in September.

Berg, president of Berg Entertainment International Inc. and director of more than 400 episodes of broadcast television, plans to make the XDCAM HD system his primary camera for other upcoming ocean adventure programming.

“The footage shot by the XDCAM HD system affirms our belief that the future for HD is very bright,” Dale said at the documentary’s screening in Temecula. “The clarity and vividness of the footage holds up extremely well, even when viewed on movie-theater-sized projection screens.”

Aniston Makes Lesbian Debut on 'Dirt'

Jennifer Aniston and her good friend Courteney Cox got into a catfight and shared a kiss while filming an episode of Cox's new TV series Dirt last week. Chemistry wins at the 2007 adult film awards

LOS ANGELES – Chemistry, a takeoff on reality shows that films seven porn stars left in a house for 36 hours with cameras rolling but no script, won the AVN Award for Best Gonzo Release at the 2007 adult film awards ceremony.

Conceived and directed by New York newspaper columnist Tristan Taormino (she writes a weekly column on sex for The Village Voice), Chemistry was released in 2006 by Vivid Entertainment, the leading adult film studio. AVN dubbed the movie a “new-style gonzo.” It is Taormino’s first film for Vivid and Chemistry 2, is being released this month. She is currently at work on a new generation of sex education films for the studio.

Taormino, who was covering the ceremony for The Village Voice, was on hand to receive her award. “I was completely shocked,” she said.

Taormino is the niece of famed novelist Thomas Pynchon. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa in American Studies from Wesleyan University and is the author of three best-selling books and editor of 14 anthologies. She has been featured in over 200 publications and has lectured at top colleges and universities including Yale and Yale Law School, Brown, Columbia, Smith, Swarthmore, Vassar, University of California at Santa Barbara, Colby College, Sarah Lawrence College, and NYU, where she speaks on gay and lesbian issues, sexuality and gender, and feminism.

Lohan Won't Be Released from Rehab

A Prairie Home Companion star Lindsay Lohan will not be allowed to leave her rehab facility to attend the premiere of her new movie at the Sundance Film Festival. Media reports claimed the 20-year-old was taking a break from her treatment to attend the famous film festival, only days after checking herself in. The actress' new film, Chapter 27, also starring rumored ex-boyfriend Jared Leto, is being shown at the festival in Park City, Utah. Lohan's spokesperson, Leslie Sloane Zelnick, tells E! Online that the star is staying put at the exclusive Wonderland Center in the Hollywood Hills for now.

2007 Washington Auto Show

Has Hilton Damaged Her Eyelids?

Hotel heiress Paris Hilton reportedly visited a plastic surgeon in Los Angeles earlier this week in a bid to fix her 'drooping' left eyelid. The 25-year-old was allegedly left with muscle damage in her left eye after a botched eyelid lift operation six years ago, and the damage has reportedly been worsened by her fondness for wearing blue-tinted contact lenses over her naturally brown eyes. A source tells PageSix.com, "(Her eyes) have been drying out lately. She is ignoring doctors' orders to not wear her tinted contacts." However, Hilton's representative Elliot Mintz denies the rumors, insisting, "To the best of my knowledge, Paris has never had any kind of cosmetic surgery and has not mentioned any medical procedures having to do with her eyes."

Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka has joined his war with Rosie O'Donnell, branding the comedienne "a bully." O'Donnell upset Trump, the owner of the Miss USA pageant, last month when she ridiculed him on her magazine talk show The View for giving hard-partying, alcohol-abusing beauty queen Tara Conner a chance to redeem herself during a much-publicized press conference. She accused him of bankruptcy and called him a "snake-oil salesman." Trump hit back calling O'Donnell "a crude, arrogant, pushy, disgusting slob," and now Ivanka - the 25-year-old vice president of real estate development at her father's Trump Organization - has weighed in. Ivanka says, "I think it was unfair, it was uncalled for and, quite frankly, there was no reason for it. As my father said, she, too, has had a lot of second chances. You know, there's nothing surprising about the fact that my dad's gonna come back with a vengeance anytime anyone says anything negative against him."

Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson has rubbished reports she acted like a diva on the set of Justin Timberlake's new music video. The Lost In Translation star teamed up with Timberlake for his new music video "What Goes Around... Comes Around," but the event has been dogged by speculation the actress behaved like a diva throughout. Johansson was said to have thrown a strop when she wasn't allowed to smoke on set, and allegedly said, "How come we have fire dancers, but I can't smoke?" Eating in front of her was also reportedly banned, with her bodyguard telling crew members to go somewhere else if they were going to eat. However, Johansson's publicist Marcel Pariseau has blasted the claims, reports the New York Daily News. He says, "Scarlett is always respectful of other people and never made this statement. Also, Scarlett doesn't have a bodyguard."

Spears Working To Overcome Negative Publicity

Britney Spears is devastated fans are disappointed with her recent bad behavior and is vowing to get her life back on track in 2007. The singer has recently made worldwide headlines for her partying, pantyless antics with the paparazzi and a New Year's eve incident in which she reportedly passed out at a Las Vegas nightclub. Spears' manager Larry Rudolph says, "She understands what's going on right now, and she calls it her 'rocky moment.' Britney knows exactly what she needs to do. I'm not defending (her behavior), and she's not defending it. (With regards to New Year's Eve) we were sitting there drinking orange juice. She got tired in a club, and we took her back to her room. Suddenly, I'm hearing words like 'collapsed' and 'passed out.' From what they've been seeing and hearing, I understand the disappointment (from fans). But Britney is increasingly motivated to get out there. She sees this as a challenge, that some fans may be questioning her. She is respectful. She sees this as her challenge to win them back. Paris Hilton will no longer be associated with two nightclubs called Club Paris, because the socialite's failure to attend scheduled appearances has angered the venues' owner. Fred Khalilian refuses to change the name of his flagship club in Orlando, Florida or that of its sister club in nearby Jacksonville. He has now "fired" Hilton, who even arrived six hours late for the Orlando club's opening two years ago, and wants the two Club Paris' to refer to the French capital instead. Khalilian says, "She's created a circus for herself. It's all about, how has she screwed up now?" Hilton's spokesman Elliot Mintz, who claims neither Hilton nor himself have been contacted by Khalilian, says, "I'm certainly disappointed to learn of Fred's unfortunate comments. We shall address his statements at the appropriate time."

Lohan Recovering After Emergency Surgery

Lindsay Lohan is back in the hospital after having emergency surgery to remove her appendix yesterday. The 20-year-old star was diagnosed with appendicitis after feeling ill on Wednesday and sought medical attention. Her representative Leslie Sloane confirmed her condition to American publication People saying, "She does have appendicitis, and she is getting her appendix removed." Sloane said the Mean Girls star was recovering and resting comfortably in a Los Angeles-area hospital. Just days ago, Lohan was celebrating the New Year in Miami, Florida, where she was seen chatting with ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama. This isn't the first health scare for the star - she fractured her wrist in September after a fall at a party in New York City and was hospitalized in July after becoming "overheated and dehydrated." After a New Year's Eve celebration in 2005, Lohan was admitted to a Miami hospital suffering from a severe asthma attack.
